The United States on Friday witnessed its lowest novel coronavirus daily death toll in three weeks with 1,258 new deaths, according to a tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University.

The US is by the far the worst-affected country from the pandemic, both in terms of infections and deaths. The country has witnessed 890,000 coronavirus cases. 

Health experts said that the sharp drop from 3,176 deaths on Thursday should be continued for a longer period for the country to enter into the declining phase. 

Meanwhile, netizens on Thursday took a dig at President Donald Trump's suggestion of using industrial cleaners to treat COVID-19 patients. 

"Is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?" Trump said in a televised briefing. 

"It sounds interesting to me."

Also, the US state of Georgia on Friday opened some businesses, that include gyms, hair salons and tattoo parlors. 

Georgia, which is governed by Republican Brian Kemp, has over 22,000 COVID-19 cases, including 892 deaths.
