Watch: Thieves steal Swedish royal crowns, flee in motorboat

Crown jewels belonging to Swedish royal family were stolen by a pair of thieves on Tuesday who fled the scene on a motorboat. 

Police conducted investigations near a cathedral in Strangnas, Sweden after thieves stole two crowns and an orb from the Swedish royal family's collection. 

The two royal crowns belonged to King Karl IX, the other to Queen Kristina. 

The robbers broke into a glass case that held the funeral regalia of King Karl IX and his wife Queen Kristina and swiped the two crowns and an orb from the 17th century.

The robbers then made their getaway in a motorboat that was waiting just a couple of hundred metres away on lake Malaren, Sweden's third biggest lake, police said.

No arrests have been made yet as the police are currently on a lookout for the suspects.

The monarchs were initially buried with their crowns, but the “invaluable objects” were later exhumed and put on display in Strangnas Cathedral.
