Obama's memoir fulfils half of an agreement that publisher Penguin Random House reached with her and the former president after he left office.

Former first lady Michelle Obama held an intimate discussion with television mogul Oprah Winfrey in Chicago at the launch of her memoir "Becoming".

Obama's memoir fulfils half of an agreement that publisher Penguin Random House reached with her and the former president after he left office.

Under the agreement, the couple will each publish one book, reportedly for a sum worth more than $60 million.

In the discussion with Oprah Winfrey, the former first lady talked about her days at the White House.

".. the White House, the state floor, that's not the private residence. That's where all the official stuff goes on, she said.

"They tell you-you can order anything. And they listen very carefully because everybody listens to every word that the president says. And I used to tell Barack 'don't say you want something because then we'll have, like, thousands of it, you know? And then we're paying for it', the former first lady added.

Obama's memoir chronicles her life growing up on Chicago's South Side through her years inside the White House as a mother of two and the nation's first African-American first lady.
