Watch: I apologised to Monica Lewinsky, MeToo long overdue, says Bill Clinton

Former US President Bill Clinton who was embroiled in the Monica Lewinsky scandal has said that he apologised to Monica and her family.

Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern, had an affair with President Clinton in the mid-1990s which blew up into a major scandal and nearly went into impeachment.

After 20 years, during a TV panel discussion, Clinton said: "I apologised to my family, to Monica Lewinsky and her family, and to the American people before a panel of ministers in the White House."

"I live with it all the time," the former president added. 

Clinton said that he supported the MeToo movement, saying that it was "long overdue". 

"I support the 'Me Too' movement,  I have always tried to support it in the decisions and policies that I've advanced," Bill Clinton said.

Monica Lewinsky, 44, had almost disappeared from public view after the scandal was buried and Clinton moved out of the White House in 1998. 

Later she appeared after over 15 years to declare she was a victim of bullying and worldwide outrage following the scandal. It led to her to being treated as an outcast who struggled to get jobs after she left the White House.
