A 61-year-old man from California, US is in headlines for his belief that the Earth is flat like a frisbee. Mike Hughes launched himself into the sky in a self-made steam-powered rocket on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, Hughes went as high as 1,875 feet in a rocket that has 'FLAT EARTH' painted on it.

The rocket was launched around 3 pm Pacific time on Saturday and reached its maximum speed at around 350 miles per hour.

The 61-year-old limo driver believes that the Earth is flat and is on a mission to prove the same to the world. Hughes aims at propelling himself to at least 52 miles above the Earth's surface in order to prove that the planet is flat.

The rocket launch was supposed to happen in November last year but was postponed owing to delay in acquiring necessary permits.

Another attempt was made in February this year but the rocket failed to ignite during the launch attempt.
