As the vote count continues in US elections 2020, exit poll results indicated Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden has won the battleground state of Michigan. The state was earlier won by President Trump during the 2016 elections.
Michigan accounts for 16 electoral votes.

According to reports, the Trump campaign is aiming to start a multi-pronged legal attack in various key battleground states after the election results night.
The US President wants the justice system to intervene in a pending US Supreme Court case that has yet to decide whether or not the mail-in votes received after the election day should be counted or not.

US President Trump had recently called the counting to stop, while earlier claiming that the results should be declared on the same day as the election - November 3.
The US president also claimed that due to the ongoing counting, his chances of voting fraud in the elections are high.

Trump recently claimed that his administration would involve the US Supreme Court in a bid to halt counting of votes.
But many analysts have said that the US Supreme Court may not be the final arbiter in this election.

As counting continues in the US presidential elections, Joe Biden supporters marched in New York to demand every vote be counted, as President Trump's supporters protested in Detroit demanding a halt to ballot counting in Michigan.
Republican Senator Susan Collins said she defeated her Democratic opponent, Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon.
Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien: "There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results. The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.”.

Federal Reserve begins meeting as US vote yet to be decided
The Federal Reserve's rate-setting committee began meeting Wednesday, a spokesperson said, hours after polls closed in the US presidential election which remains undecided.
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is not expected to address the election in its two-day regularly scheduled meeting, nor is it predicted to change interest rates that were slashed to near-zero earlier this year as the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the US economy.

A day after Americans voted in a bitterly contested election, the rest of the world was none the wiser on Wednesday, with millions of votes still to count, the race too close to call and a mounting risk of days or even weeks of legal uncertainty.
Donald Trump's pre-emptive declaration of victory at the White House was condemned by some U.S. political commentators and civil rights groups, who warned about the trampling of long-standing democratic norms.
Most world leaders and foreign ministers sat on their hands, trying not to add any fuel to the electoral fire.

"It's pretty clear that American people have elected @realDonaldTrump and @Mike_Pence for #4moreyears," wrote Janez Jansa, one of several east European leaders, including Hungary's Viktor Orban, who are fervent Trump allies. "Congratulations @GOP for strong results across the #US."

German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on Wednesday warned the United States was facing a "very explosive situation" and a possible systemic crisis after President Donald Trump prematurely declared election victory.
US vote result won't impact trade with Europe, France says
The outcome of the presidential vote will have little impact on US-Europe trade relations, France's finance chief asserted Wednesday, saying Washington is unlikely to drop its confrontational stance whether Donald Trump wins or not.
"Let's not kid ourselves. The United States has not been a friendly partner to European states for several years now," Bruno Le Maire told Radio Classique.
"Whether Joe Biden or Donald Trump is elected by Americans tonight or tomorrow, nothing changes this strategic fact," he said. "The American continent has detached itself from the European continent."
The US administration has inflicted billions of dollars' worth of tariffs on European imports over the past four years, with Trump claiming unfair barriers against American firms trying to compete on continental markets.
His administration has also targeted China, saying it too had caused the American trade deficit to plunge by blocking US goods even while exporting massively to the US.
"Fundamentally, the only shift in American thinking is with regards to China, their relations with China and Asia as a whole," Le Maire said.
"Europe is now merely an adjustment variable for the United States," he said.

German minister warns of 'very explosive situation' in US
German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on Wednesday warned the United States was facing a "very explosive situation" and a possible systemic crisis after President Donald Trump prematurely declared election victory.
Following Trump's remarks that he will go to the Supreme Court to stop ballots from being tallied, Kramp-Karrenbauer told public broadcaster ZDF "this election has not been decided... votes are still being counted".
She said Trump could create "a constitutional crisis in the USA".
Absentee ballots still being tallied
Absentee ballots are still being tallied in Milwaukee, Kenosha, and other cities. These ballots are expected to favour Biden.
Biden camp calls Trump statement 'outrageous'
Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon in a statement: “The president’s statement tonight about trying to shut down the counting of duly cast ballots was outrageous, unprecedented, and incorrect.
"It was outrageous because it is a naked effort to take away the democratic rights of American citizens.
"It was unprecedented because never before in our history has a president of the United States sought to strip Americans of their voice in a national election. Having encouraged Republican efforts in multiple states to prevent the legal counting of these ballots before Election Day, now Donald Trump is saying these ballots can’t be counted after Election Day either.
"And it was incorrect because it will not happen. The counting will not stop. It will continue until every duly cast vote is counted. Because that is what our laws — the laws that protect every Americans’ constitutional right to vote — require.
"We repeat what the Vice President said tonight: Donald Trump does not decide the outcome of this election. Joe Biden does not decide the outcome of this election. The American people decide the outcome of this election. And the democratic process must and will continue until its conclusion."
Big Democratic cities still counting
Both big Democratic cities in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, are still counting votes and have announced they will release no further results until morning east coast time.

1) A nail-biting finish in the offing
The presidential race remains too close to call.
Donald Trump’s has registered wins in Florida, Ohio, but the pivotal swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin remain undecided.
The US media has projected Biden at 235 electoral votes, and Trump at 213.
2) We have won, Trump claims
Trump falsely declared victory in the race, as he claimed “fraud.” Speaking at the White House, the president threatened to challenge the election results in the supreme court.
3) Biden is, however, hopeful
Democrat Joe Biden said he was confident of victory.
Biden, 77, was eyeing the so-called "blue wall" states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania that sent Trump, 74, to the White House in 2016 for possible breakthroughs once those states finish counting votes cast earlier by mail and in person.
In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and much of Michigan, mail-in ballots were not processed until Election Day on Tuesday.
"We feel good about where we are," Biden said in his home state of Delaware, shouting over a din of supporters in cars honking their horns in approval. "We believe we're on track to win this election."

Trump alleges fraud, says will go to SC to dispute election count
"This is a fraud on the American public,” the president said a the White House. “This is an embarrassment to our country.”
The president has not won reelection as of now, and key swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin remain too close to call.
The president pledged to fight the results of the election at the supreme court.
“We will be going to the US supreme court. We want all voting to stop,” Trump said.

Election results from some battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Georgia, were still not clear and projections from major networks and Edison Research showed Trump still short of the 270 electoral votes need to win re-election.
Election officials in key swing states continue to count valid ballots, and that process could continue for days.

Trump revels in his victories in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Texas. And expresses confidence in winning Pennsylvania and Georgia.

“This is, without question, the latest news conference I’ve ever had,” Trump jokes as he starts speaking at about 2:20 am ET.
The president then says Democrats are trying to “disenfranchise” his supporters.

Donald Trump says he will be making a statement tonight, accusing Democrats of trying to “steal” the presidential election.
“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Poles are closed!” Trump tweeted.
Biden says believes he is 'on track' to win
In his national address in Delaware, Joe Biden says, “We knew this was going to be long. But look: we feel good about where we are. We really do.”
“I believe we’re on track to win this election.”
"It's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare who has won this election."
Biden emphasises the country had to wait until every vote was counted to determine the winner of the presidential election.

Democrats gather in Biden's home town ahead of speech
Supporters of White House hopeful Joe Biden began gathering nervously late Tuesday for an election night event like no other.
Some 200 to 300 cars are expected for the event, where Biden and running mate Kamala Harris -- joined by their spouses Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff -- will address supporters from an outdoor stage.
Trump wins in hotly contested Ohio: US networks
President Donald Trump on Tuesday prevailed in the hotly contested Rust Belt state of Ohio -- one he seized in 2016 and which is key to his efforts to win reelection over Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

A buoyant Trump said Republicans were "looking really good" as US election voting reached its peak.
Over 100 million voters have already exercised their franchise. According to US Elections Project, 101,167,740 people in the United States have voted already with 35,923,053 in-person votes and 65,244,687 mail-in ballots.
In California over 12 million votes have cast their ballot with over 9 million in Texas who have exercised their democratic right even as President Trump and Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden meet with last-minute voters.
