Donald Trump, now the 45th President of the United States to America, delivered his victory speech at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan, New York.

He was gracious in his speech, congratulating his rival Hillary Clinton for a “very, very hard-fought campaign”.

He struck a conciliatory, rather than divisive, note, saying he would bind the wounds of division and pledged to be president for all Americans.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me,” Trump said during his speech.

“For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I'm reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country,” he added.

The real estate mogul said Clinton telephoned him to concede the race shortly after he won the state of Pennsylvania.

He also pledged to "deal fairly with everyone", including "all other nations".

“We will have great relationships. We expect to have great, great relationships. No dream is too big, no challenge is too great. Nothing we want for our future is beyond our reach,” the Republican said.

“America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. We must reclaim our country's destiny and dream big and bold and daring. We have to do that,” Trump told his supporters.
