The suspect in the shooting of a US consular official in Mexico's western city of Guadalajara has been arrested, Mexican officials have told news agencies.

The identity of the suspect, who is an American, was not released, and authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the attack.

Mexican authorities said the US official, who has not been identified, is now in stable condition. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation had offered a reward of $20,000 for information to help identify and arrest the shooter.

A video posted online by the consulate in Guadalajara showed the shooter appearing to wait for the official's car to pull up at a car park barrier before shooting directly at the driver and running away. Authorities also released video of the suspect walking down a hallway and around a white van, where his face was more clearly visible.
