Story highlights

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the United States condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack in Pulwama by a Pakistan-based terrorist group.

More than 12 hours after the Pulwama terror attack that killed more than 40 CRPF personnel, United States has come hard on Pakistan but China hasn't reacted on the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

The White House in a strong statement hit out at Islamabad. Taking Pakistan's name the United States called on "Pakistan to end immediately the support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operating on its soil, whose only goal is to sow chaos, violence, and terror in the region."

It further said, "this attack only strengthens our resolve to bolster counterterrorism cooperation and coordination between the United States and India."

The US State Department in a statement said: "We call on all countries to uphold their responsibilities pursuant to UN Security Council resolutions to deny safe haven and support for terrorists."

Eleven US senators, 15 members of US house of representatives have condemned the Pulwama attack.

UN-designated, Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the terror attack.

India's neighbours - Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan - and major countries in the world -  Russia, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Israel, Iran, UAE too strongly came out in strong support of New Delhi.

However, there hasn't been any reaction from China more than 12 hours after the attack. Chinese ambassador Luo Zhaohui made no comments on Twitter while his counterparts from the US, France, Israel were quick to tweet and condemn the attack.

The ministry of external affairs last night in a strong statement hit out at Islamabad for its support to terrorism and sent a message to Beijing for its role in shielding Pakistan-based terrorist.

JEM chief Masood Azhar was blocked by China three times from being put on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions list.

India had approached the UNSC Sanctions Committee with the proposal to designate Masood Azhar under the 1267sanction regime which was backed by the US, UK and France but blocked by China.

A reaction is expected by the Chinese foreign ministry in its daily presser.

China and Pakistan call themselves as "all-weather friends" with the Chinese economic project China-Pakistan economic corridor passing through the country, providing Beijing with a lucrative link to West Asia.

Last year was a good year for India-China ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping meeting four times starting with famous Wuhan summit to reset ties after the 2017 Doklam crisis.

The Doklam crisis saw a two-month long standoff between Chinese and Indian forces after Beijing's bid to build a road on Bhutanese territory was stopped by New Delhi.
