UN invites Yemen government, Houthis for peace talks in September: Report

The Yemeni government and the Houthi movement have been invited by the United Nations for peace talks in Geneva on September 6. 

According to a Reuters report, Martin Griffiths, UN Special Envoy to Yemen, is trying to cement the gap and negotiate an end to a conflict that is almost three years old. 

The conflict between the Yemeni government and the Houthis have killed over 10,000 people, pushing the country to the verge of starvation. 

"I can confirm the office of Special Envoy has sent invitations to the government of Yemen and to Ansarullah," UN spokeswoman Alessandra Vellucci told a Geneva news briefing.
