UN imposes new sanctions against North Korea, Trump hails decision

The UN Security Council today imposed new sanctions on North Korea seeking to ban refined petroleum product export after its ICBM missile test last month.
Japan which holds the presidency of the Security Council this month said the resolution against North Korea was passed by 15-0 vote.
The US has been pressing Russia and China to cut down on oil supply to North Korea but both countries haven't responded to Trump administration's demand.
The new sanctions aim to limit refined petroleum exports at 500,000 barrels a year and capped crude oil supplies to 4 million barrels a year.
The resolution also laid down repatriation rules for North Koreans working abroad to be sent home within two years many of whom work in China and Russia, instead of one year as initially proposed by the world body.
After the vote, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said: "The resolution sends the unambiguous message to Pyongyang that further defiance will invite further punishments and isolation."

US Trump hailed the adoption of new sanctions targeting North Korea saying the international community was pushing for peace with the isolated regime.
