UK Foreign Minister Dominic Raab says PM Boris Johnson will not break law over Brexit

British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab on Sunday (September 8) dismissed as 'ridiculous' the suggestion that Prime Minister Boris Johnson could go to prison by ignoring legislation requiring Johnson to seek a delay to Britain's European Union departure.

The government is always 'always going to behave lawfully', Raab told Sky News presenter Sophy Ridge.

Saturday's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that the prime minister is prepared to defy parliament's instruction to request an extension to the Brexit process if he fails to agree on a new deal, quoting Johnson as saying he was only bound 'in theory' by the new legislation.

Raab also said that Johnson remains determined to pull Britain out of the European Union on October 31 come what may.

 Johnson, who has lost his majority in parliament and has seen his bid to call an early national election blocked, would stick to his guns on Brexit, Dominic Raab told Ridge.

The foreign minister conceded it has been a difficult week for the government. His comments follow the shock resignation of work and pensions minister Amber Rudd late on Saturday (September 7).
