UK appoints new minister for suicide prevention

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Wednesday announced the introduction of a new portfolio for suicide prevention in his ministry.
Health Minister Jackie Doyle Price who has been allocated the new ministry will now be called the minister for mental health, inequalities and suicide prevention.
Doyle who is believed to be the world's first minister for suicide prevention will ensure that every local area has developed effective plans to curb unnecessary deaths.
The ministry will also investigate how they can utilise technology in identifying the most vulnerable.

In an interview with BBC, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that the mental health did not have the same level of support in the form of resources and attention as physical health.
He also added that the government wanted to ensure that mental health occupies a crucial place as they list down the long-term plan for the future of National Health Service.
