Trump's communications director, Air Force Secretary resign

President Donald Trump's communications director, Bill Shine, resigned on Friday, the White House said.

"Assistant to the president and communications director Bill Shine offered his resignation to the president yesterday evening, and the president accepted," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement reported by news agency AFP. 

"Bill continues to support President Trump and his agenda and will serve as senior advisor to the 2020 re-election campaign."

Shine has served as a Fox News executive previously. 

Shine steps down amid reports of US Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson's resignation. Long considered a top candidate to become the next secretary of defence, Wilson has decided to resign after about two years leading a service at the heart of America's campaigns in Syria and Afghanistan, a US official told Reuters on Friday.

The official told Reuters that Wilson aims to return to academia and was not asked or pressured to leave by the Trump administration.

Wilson took to Twitter and communicated about her decision of stepping down.

"Today I informed the President I will resign as Secretary of the Air Force to be President of the University of Texas at El Paso. It has been a privilege to serve with our #Airmen—I am proud of the progress we have made to restore the readiness & lethality of #USAF," her tweet read.  

Wilson is reported to step down on May 31, if the University of Texas Board of Regents approves her selection to be president of University of Texas at El Paso, said the official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity.
