Trump unblocks more critics on Twitter after court ruling

The United States President Donald Trump unblocked more critics on Twitter after a federal judge had ruled that preventing people from following him violates individual constitutional rights of people.

A district court judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in Manhattan had ruled in May that comments on the President's account and on other government officials accounts are public forums and blocking people on these accounts violates First Amendment free speech rights of US Consitution.

The case was brought to the court by The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

The seven people named in the suit were earlier unblocked as the decision was appealed. But The Knight First Amendment Institute had filed another list to the Justice Department of 41 accounts which were still unblocked. 

The Institute on Wednesday announced on Twitter that it had gotten word that many people on that list have been unblocked by US President.

"We're pleased to see the White House take steps to comply with the district court's ruling that the First Amendment prohibits the president from blocking Twitter users simply because they have criticized him," the institute said.

The 41 blocked users include a film producer, screenwriter, photographer and author who had criticized President Trump or his policies. 

Among the people who are still unblocked is a comedian Rosie O'Donnell.

Donald Trump has a following of 54.1 million users on Twitter and has made his account an integral and controversial part of his presidency by using it to promote his agenda, announce policy and attack his critics. 

He has blocked many critics, preventing them from directly responding to his tweets.
