Theresa May says further Brexit talks with EU in coming days

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday denied reports that bloc leaders refused her plea for reassurances on her Brexit plan and added that Britain and the European Union would hold more talks on Brexit in the coming days.

May said, "I note there has been reporting that the EU is not willing to consider any further clarification. The EU is clear -- as I am -- that if we are going to leave with a deal this is it".

"My discussions with colleagues today have shown that future clarification and discussion... is, in fact, possible. We will be holding talks in coming days".

May's confirmation has come after reports on Friday stated that EU leaders rebuffed her pleas for help to sell her Brexit plan back home. The reports also said that the leaders also warned of the growing threat of a "no deal."

She welcomed a statement issued by the other 27 EU leaders restating their position on arrangements for the Irish border, which has caused MPs in Britain to threaten to reject the deal.

"There is work still to do and we will be holding talks in coming days about how to obtain the further assurances that the UK parliament needs in order to be able to approve the deal."

The British prime minister came to a Brussels summit a day after seeing off a challenge to her leadership by her own Conservative MPs.

May on Wednesday survived a confidence vote by her own MPs. She, however, lost the support of one-third of her colleagues, signalling the battle she still faces to get her Brexit deal through parliament.

She won the backing of 200 Conservative lawmakers, 117 voted to oust her.
