New York was titled as the epicenter of coronavirus in the US, which has been one of the worst hit countries with the highest death toll due to coronavirus in the world.

However, New York has been making significant improvements, according to reports. Following this, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, on Thursday, said “We're now actually in a position to start talking about opening things up step by step, phase by phase."

As stated by the Mayor, the city should must stay below a certain number of hospitalizations, intensive care unit (ICU) patients, and percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19, which it has. Therefore, the NYC government is considering to move to Phase one of reopening the economy.

Phase one will allow activities related to means construction, manufacturing, wholesale and non essential retail businesses to reopen.

However, social distancing rules along with other rules such as compulsory face mask, employers keeping a check on employees' health, no dine-in etc. will be maintained.

“We do not have a specific date. I think I've given people plenty of warning multiple times now for days and days you can expect it to be in the first or second week of June if the numbers continue to hold in most cases or progress,” the Mayor said.

The New York government is also currently trying to finalize a draft of the new budget that will help the city resume the economy without much losses.
