Spain on Sunday reported 288 new coronavirus deaths, the lowest since March 30, health ministry officials said.

The fatalities in the country dropped from 378 on Saturday to take the overall deaths to 23,190, the third-highest death toll after the United States and Italy.

The health ministry also said that 98,731 people have now recovered from the COVID-19.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, on Saturday, announced that lockdown restrictions would be relaxed if coronavirus figures continue to fall.

Unlike other European countries, Spain issued a stringent lockdown on March 14, where children were not allowed to go out and only adults can go outside only to buy food, medicine and take out the dog for a brief walk.

However, from Sunday, children under-14s were permitted to go out once a day for one hour between 9:00 am (0700 GMT) and 9:00 pm, along with one parent, but not more than one kilometre from their home.

Sanchez said on Saturday that everyone in the country would take walks and exercise from next weekend.
