The Syrian army on Sunday seized a string of villages from US aided army, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), near the border with Iraq.

The villages have been captured from US-backed SDF east of the Euphrates river near the border.

The US-backed proxy forces are campaigning in the area since 2017 to drive out the Islamic State.

The SDF are promoted by Kurdish YPG militia. The forces have taken much of the territory east of the Euphrates in Deir al-Zor province.

The Russian-backed Syrian army avoids clashes with SDF in its fight against Islamist State. It also distances itself from the east of Euphrates.

An elaborate " deconfliction lines" separates the US-led forces from Russian and Iranian backed forces.

The SDF had claimed earlier that they were engaged in heavy clashes with Syrian army troops on the outskirts of the village near the Euphrates.
