Russia to deliver new air defence systems to Syria: Defence Ministry

Russia plans to deliver new air defence systems to Syria in the near future, Russian defence ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry added it plans to study a US Tomahawk cruise missile captured by Syrian forces in a recent attack, in order to improve Russia's own missiles.

"Russian force group is ready to rebut strikes by any air attack weapons. Yesterday Russian air defence system detected and destroyed two rebels' unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of 10 km from Hmeymim air base," Colonel General Sergei Rudskoi said.

Colonel-general Sergei Rudskoi also said Russian servicemen captured two UAVs which he said belonged to the rebels.

"Russian experts will continue teaching Syrian servicemen and will also provide assistance in mastering new air defence systems which will be delivered," Rudskoi declared.
