Iran's Foreign Ministry on Sunday urged Turkey to protect the territorial integrity of Syria.

Iranian Foreign Minister's spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Sunday noted that the Islamic republic is concerned about the recent developments in Syria.

Qasemi's statement came in the wake of the Turkish launch of operation against Kurdish militants entering Syria.

Iran also hoped the Turkish operation to end immediately in order to prevent any more border-region crisis between the two nations.

The foreign ministry urged Turkey to remain committed to political measures to settle the Syrian crisis.

Turkey's Operation Olive Branch was launched on Saturday with an aim to clear its borders from the People's Protection Units (YPG).

Ankara considers the YPG as a Kurdish group tied to Syria's Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The Ankara-led military operation aims to establish a security zone in Afrin -- 30kms from the Turkish border.
