Story highlights

While the country has officially surpassed the United States in terms of the daily death toll, Bolsonaro continues to tout the virus as a 'measly cold' and is not willing to acknowledge the outcome of his actions.

President Jair Bolsonaro is gambling with the lives of millions of Brazilians just to stay in power.

While the country has officially surpassed the United States in terms of the daily death toll, Bolsonaro continues to tout the virus as a ''measly cold'' and is not willing to acknowledge the outcome of his actions.

Brazil recorded 807 deaths over the last 24 hours, whereas, 620 casualties were witnessed in the United States.

Despite being the second most infected country in the world, its President is opening gyms and swimming pools in the country while going to surf himself.

Bolsonaro appears to be in a league of his own. He held an anti-lockdown rally on May 24 which was sponsored by the Brazilian government itself.

To top it all, the 65-year-old leader did not pay any heed to social distancing regulations and hugged his supporters.

In this manner, not only did he put his life at risk but also of countless others as well.

Although according to his age he is in the high risk and vulnerable category of COVID-19 but he believes he is immune to the deadly coronavirus because of his athletic background. He said on record that he can catch a flu in the worst case scenario.

His belligerence can be explained by a political scandal in which he was involved.

He was accused of meddling in a police investigation against his son, Carlos, by Brazil's former justice minister, Sergio Moro.

The federal police in Rio de Janeiro has been investigating Carlos for allegedly organizing fake news scheme. Bolsonaro apparently tried to get the case quashed.

The Supreme Court of Brazil has now released what it claims to be a clincher. A profanity-laced video from one of Bolsonaro's cabinet meetings showing his frustration at his inability to influence the cops.

Bolsonaro is somewhat aware of his declining popularity and is relying upon polarization to survive till the country's next election in two years.
