Pope Francis will visit Ireland in August marking the first papal trip to the country after nearly 4 decades, news agency Reuters reported. 

He will arrive in Dublin for two days, August 25, 26, to conclude an international Catholic Church meeting on families.

Pope Francis may also visit Northern Ireland, however, the pope had announced that his visit would be limited to Ireland.

The World Meeting of Families will take place in Ireland's capital city Dublin from the 21st to the 26th of August.

Pope Francis will be presiding over the closing ceremonies on the final two days of the meeting.

The last papal visit to Ireland was nearly 40 years in the year 1979 when Pope John Paul visited the country.

Pope John Paul II made history by becoming the first pope ever to visit Ireland.
