Papa John's has announced that the founder of the company, John Schnatter would step down from the post of CEO on Thursday.

According to the reports, Schnatter will be replaced by the company's current president Steve Ritchie who will take the post from January 1.

The step down is followed by statements given by Schnatter on National Football League National Anthem protest in November.

Schnatter blamed the National Football League for "poor leadership" for letting players protest.

The pizza company saw a dip in sales after the national anthem protest by NFL players against the social justice issues.

Since 2016 players have been protesting by either kneeling or raising a fist during while the national anthem plays before the game.

Several celebrities supported the national anthem protest by players although Donald Trump called it unpatriotic movement.
