North Korea today fired what was believed to be a Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile, but appeared to have failed, a media report said.

"The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) launched a projectile, estimated to have been a Musudan missile, from the Wonsan area. But the launch appeared to have failed," said South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to a Xinhua report, citing Yonhap news agency.

Late on Monday, South Korea's military confirmed that it was tracking signs of possible ballistic missile launch by North Korea.
