New York governor Cuomo 'considering' quarantine at airports for travellers from Florida

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is "considering" quarantine at airports for travellers from Florida where coronavirus have increased substantially in the past few weeks.

Florida on Thursday declared 85,926 coronavirus cases with over 3,200 cases in a single day which is the highest recorded in the state till date.

Cuomo while talking to reporters said that New York has the virus under control but Florida and Texas do not including other states, therefore, if travellers get on the plane and land at JFK airport "this could start all over again. That's how we got here the first time."

New York till recently was the epicentre of the virus with the city on complete lockdown, however, as the number of cases declined Governor Cuomo ordered a slow unlocking of restrictions.

Florida had earlier ordered self-quarantine for at least 14 days for travellers from New York when the virus cases had begun to skyrocket in Big Apple in March. 

On Thursday, New York reported 687 deaths from the virus which was the eighth day when the death toll was less than 1,000 even as the United States continues to grapple with the virus with 2,187,876 infection cases and 118,381 fatalities.

Amid the growing number of cases with at least 20 US states experiencing rebound of COVID-19 cases, White House's chief infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci said: "I don't think we're going to be talking about going back to lockdown."

"I think we're going to be talking about trying to better control those areas of the country that seem to be having a surge of cases," Fauci asserted.
