NASA engineers have designed new technologies, including a ventilator for the treatment of novel coronavirus patients.
New high-pressure devices called VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally) have been designed to treat COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms. These devices are designed by engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, US and are now waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administrations.
"COVID-19 patients --- their lungs are not compliant, so you need high pressure and this is a high pressure ventilator," JPL's Dave Gallagher told US President Donald Trump at a White House meeting.
He also said that these ventilators used special parts and therefore would not hamper the production chain of traditional ventilators.
