Muslims add to religious tapestry of American life: Trump's Ramadan message
Story highlights
As Muslims all across the globe celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday released an official statement stating that Ramadan "reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of American life."
According to reports, the White House may also organise a small Iftar event on June 6, with ambassadors from Muslim majority countries and other US Muslim leaders as attendees.
Last year in January, Trump had signed an order banning refugee admissions and temporarily barring people from seven Muslim-majority countries -- Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The move instantly soured United States' relations with Muslim Americans. The Trump administration, in 2016, also pressed for mosque surveillance for security.
