Man opens fire in Texas high school, at least 8 dead

A shooter opened fire in a Texas high school on Friday morning killing at least 8 people, mostly students.

The incident took place at Santa Fe High School, located southeast of Houston in Galveston County.

 "There could be anywhere between eight to 10, the majority being students," Sheriff of Harris County, Ed Gonzalez said, adding that the gunman was a student at Santa Fe High School. 

The suspect was in custody, reports said.

"This morning, an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The situation is active, but has been contained," the Santa Fe Independent School District said on its website.

President Trump said the incident was  "absolutely horrific".

"This has been going on too long in our country," Trump said.  "My administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students, secure our schools, and to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves, and to others," he added. 

"Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location," the Santa Fe school said adding that other schools in the district were not affected.
