Magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocks Indonesia's Lombok island: USGS

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia's Lombok Island on Sunday, the USGS informed. 

The tremor was centered west-southwest of Belanting town in East Lombok, the USGS said, at a relatively shallow depth of seven kilometres (four miles). Residents said the quake was felt strongly in East Lombok.

USGS estimated the depth of the latest tremor at 7.9 km (4.9 miles). 

Yesterday, a deep offshore earthquake hit Indonesian archipelago late on Friday (Aug 17), according to data from the US Geological Survey.

The 6.6 magnitude quake hit 153 km north-east of Raba at a depth of  564.7 km, it said.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in a tweet there was no tsunami risk.

The death toll of Indonesia' devastating earthquake in its popular holiday destination Lombok island on increased to 436 people as more bodies were recovered from the debris of collapsed buildings and landslides.
