Maduro accuses US of disrupting democracy, seeking coup in Venezuela

President Nicolas Maduro on Sunday cast his vote in Caracas for local elections in Venezuela for more than 2,000 councillors, using the event to accuse the US of disrupting democracy in the country.
The main opposition parties did not attend the election on Sunday, as they abstained in the May elections in which President Nicolas Maduro won a questioned re-election.
In different parts of Caracas and other cities in the country, some tables were empty and without voters, according to Reuters witnesses. Maduro accused the US of being behind moves to disrupt the vote.
According to the National Electoral Council (CNE), on Sunday the 2,459 councillors of the 335 municipalities of the country will be elected.
Maduro also criticised a move to have the rescheduled Copa Libertadores final in Madrid, after violence in previous host city Buenos Aires saw the Boca Juniors team bus attacked before the match.
