The Dow finished nearly 550 points up at 27,477.40 as the markets leaned towards Biden who has been leading the opinion polls for the past month.
The S&P 500 went up 1.8 per cent to end at 3,369.11, while the Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 11,160.57.

Former US President Barack Obama pitches for "change" as voters come out in large numbers amid the pandemic.
As US voters come out in huge numbers to vote, the numbers will start to come in after in-person voting closes at 6:00 pm Eastern Time (EST) (2300 GMT) in parts of two states, and then build as more states stop allowing votes in the hours after.
Most close by 9:00 pm EST, opening the way for vote tallies over the following hours, with some districts and states reporting faster than others.

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden's wife Jill exhorted voters to go out and cast their ballot as the US Elections Day marked hectic polling activity.

President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka pitched for her father saying in a tweet that the US President has been "ending the endless wars".
As voters line up to vote during US elections, Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden's vice president pick Kamala Harris said "it is going to a tight race, let's elect Joe Biden".
"I think we're going to have a great night," Trump said during an appearance in Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, where he thanked campaign workers. "But it's politics and it's elections, and you never know."
"Winning is easy. Losing is never easy - not for me it's not," Trump added.
Trump said he was not yet thinking about making a concession speech or acceptance speech.

Over 100 million American voters have now cast their ballot in the US elections.
100, 298,838 votes have been cast with 35,733,103 in-person votes and 64,565,735 mail-in ballots.
According to US Elections Project, 99,657,079 votes have cast their ballot so far with 35,720,830 in-person votes and 63,936,249 mail ballots.

Chad Wolf, the acting secretary of homeland security said: "Voters should be patient while waiting for the outcome of this year's election, it is important to recognise that this process may require time."
"We have no indications that a foreign actor has succeeded in compromising or affecting the actual votes cast in this election. But we do remain on high alert," Wolf added.
Polls opened in few eastern states at 6 am EST (1100 GMT).
The most closely watched results will start to trickle in after 7 pm EST (2400 GMT) when polls close in states such as Georgia, though definitive national results could take days if the contest is tight.
The broad-based S&P 500 has gained 1.0 per cent to 3,344.23, while the Nasdaq Composite Index has climbed 0.6 per cent to 11,027.65.
