Lebanon to restart economic re-opening from Monday after coronavirus lockdown

Lebanon has decided to restart its economy from Monday onwards. Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced about this after a four-day shutdown imposed after a surge in coronavirus cases threatening a second wave to the country. 

The country has been in an economical crisis even before the pandemic hit Lebanon. But the nation was trying to reignite its economy last month which was halted due to rise in COVID cases. 

Lebanon recorded 911 cases in the novel coronavirus and 26 deaths, which means the country has been successful in containing the globally infected virus after curfews and shutting businesses and air travel. 

On Sunday, Prime Minister Diab conveyed a message to his citizens through a televised address where he urged people to follow health and safety guidelines. 

"We do not want this stage to turn into a nightmare, and we will not accept that all Lebanese pay the price for some irresponsible and indifferent behaviours," said Diab.

A five-stage plan for reopening economic activity unveiled last month envisages most economic activity revived after a final period starting on June 8.

Lebanon has not set a date for the re-opening of its airport for commercial flights.
