Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering a visit to France in November following an official invitation to attend an event marking the anniversary of World War One, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

Putin last met his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, in Moscow in July on the final day of the soccer World Cup tournament, hosted by Russia.

Earlier this month, the two leaders spoke over the phone about the case of a Ukrainian filmmaker who is on hunger strike in Russian jail as well as the situation in Syria.

Sentsov, 42, was arrested in Crimea after the Ukrainian territory was seized by Russian forces and annexed in 2014. He was jailed for 20 years on terrorism charges which he says are politically motivated, and has been on hunger strike since May to highlight Russia’s human rights record.

The presidents discussed humanitarian aid to the war-torn Middle Eastern country, the Kremlin was cited as saying.
