Kim Jong-un likely to meet Trump at DMZ: Report

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has convinced North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to hold his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump at the demilitarized zone separating North Korea and South Korea, CNN cited a source as saying.

Moon and Kim met at the same location in the truce village of Panmunjom last Friday. The landmark event was televised worldwide and led to an agreement to denuclearise the Korean Peninsula and formally end the Korean War.

An official familiar with North Korean politics told CNN that there is a "strong possibility" the summit will be held at the site.

The source that the venue was a logical choices since media facilities and equipment were already in place which could allow the summit to take place "in late May."

A senior US official and a person familiar told CNN that Trump had raised the possibility in his Sunday phone call with Moon

"There's something I like about it, because you're there, if things work out, there's a great celebration to be had on the site, not in a third party country," he said.

The CNN source, however, added that US officials wanted the meet to be held in the more-neutral Singapore since holding it in the DMZ would appear conciliatory towards Kim.
