Trump said that was because the prince was 'running things' over there.

US President Donald Trump has for the first time said he believes Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman was at least aware of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, if he had not given the order to kill him himself.

Trump said that was because the prince was "running things" over there.

Trump made his comments to the Wall Street Journal.

Trump was asked whether he thought Salman was at least aware of the plan to kill Khashoggi.

“Well, the prince is running things over there more so at this stage,” the Wall Street Journal quoted Trump as saying. “He’s running things and so if anybody were going to be, it would be him.”

Trump had earlier said "the cover up (of the killing) was one of the worst in the history of cover ups." He went on to call the killing and its aftermath — with the Saudis first denying the murder, then giving a number of accounts as to how it might have happened — a "total fiasco."
