An advisor to US President Donald Trump and an entrepreneur Ivanka Trump on Tuesday thanked outgoing CEO of Pepsico Indra Nooyi for her "passionate engagement" on issues that benefit the people of the US and beyond.

In a tweet made earlier in the day, Ivanka Trump started by saying, "The great Indra Nooyi is stepping down as PepsiCo CEO, after 12 years" and continued with being "grateful" for Nooyi's friendship and thanked her for her "passionate engagement on issues that benefit the people of this country, and beyond".

"Indra, you are a mentor + inspiration to so many, myself included. I am deeply grateful for your friendship. Thank you for your passionate engagement on issues that benefit the people of this country, and beyond," she tweeted.

On Monday, the Chennai based PepsiCo CEO announced her departure from the company after spending 12 years at the helm.

“Leading PepsiCo has truly been the honour of my lifetime, and I’m incredibly proud of all we have done over the past 12 years to advance the interests not only of shareholders but all our stakeholders in the communities we serve,” Nooyi said in her statement.

Sixty-two-year-old Nooyi joined Pepsi Co in 1994 and became CFO in 2001.

The India-born high profile executive became CEO in 2006. She drove the company's global strategy as PepsiCo's revenue grew exponentially during her term.

She will be succeeded by company's president Ramon Laguarta.
