Genoa bridge collapse: Death toll rises to 30; train services stopped

The death toll in the Genoa bridge collapse has risen to 30, Italy's deputy transport minister said.

The 1960s bridge collapsed during torrential rainfall in the northern Italian port city of Genoa on Tuesday afternoon.

Local authorities said 20 vehicles were involved when the bridge collapsed. Several people were injured who were rushed to hospital as medical services operated in full gear.

The motorway crashed over a river, railroad tracks and buildings. It resulted in train services being stopped in the city.

The head of the local ambulance service said there were "dozens of dead", Italian news agency Adnkronos reported.
