Iran accuses Donald Trump of interfering in 'internal affairs'

Iranian government on Thursday attacked the United States President Donald Trump for backing the anti-government protestors and meddling in Iran's domestic affairs.

The government accused President Trump of encouraging disruption through his absurd tweets. 

In a letter to the UN Security Council yesterday, Iran's UN Ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo said that U.S. government "has stepped up its acts of intervention in a grotesque way in Iran's internal affairs under the pretext of providing support for sporadic protests."

Khoshroo highlighted that US has violated international law and the principles of the UN charter, urging other countries to condemn Washington's statements.

"The U.S. Department of State went so far as admitting that the U.S. government wants to encourage protesters in Iran to change their government, admitting that the U.S. is engaged in interfering with the internal affairs of Iran through Facebook and Twitter," he wrote.

In a series of tweets, Trump attacked Iran of failing at every level and said that it is time for a change in the Islamic Republic.

"Such respect for the people of Iran as they try to take back their corrupt government.You will see great support from the United States at the appropriate time," Trump tweeted earlier.

Protests in Iran began when people raised their grievances over the rising cost of food and other necessities, which in a short time spread to expressions of anger against the government.

At least 21 people were killed and hundreds have been arrested during a week of anti-government protests and unrest.
