Iran: 11 injured in protest against water crisis

According to reports, 11 people were injured when a peaceful protest over water crisis turned violent in southwestern Iran.

At least 10 police officers and a civilian were injured, ANI reported.

Iran's Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaghari stated that an armed person attacked 11 persons, including a civilian, after which clashes broke out between the police and the protesters.

The incident took place in Khorramshahr city of Iran.

While the suspect is yet to be identified, no loss of life has been reported. The police and disciplinary forces are investigating the matter.

Protesters were staging an opposition against water shortage and pollution of freshwater resources in Khorramshahr and other Iranian cities in Khuzestan Province.
