In joint statement, North and South Korea decide to convert DMZ into 'peace zone'

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon in a joint statement decided to end hostilities between the two countries and reunite families separated during the 1953 Korean war.

Both leaders decided to engage in high-level military talks next month as hopes of permanent peace sweeped the Korean peninsula.

In a historic move, the two Korean leaders decided to convert the Demilitarised Zone(DMZ) into a "peace zone"

The joint statement also said South Korean President Moon will visit North Korea in autumn this year.

The two leaders met at Panmunjom "peace village" with the eyes of the world fixed on Kim and Moon as they engaged in talks overshadowing months of hostility and war talk.

Both leaders engaged in talks for over an hour behind closed doors, out in the open they exchanged jokes and looked at ease with each other as the Korean peninsula looked to be heading towards peace.
