Hong Kong skyline goes dark for Earth Hour

Hong Kong switched off its lights across the city for Earth Hour on Saturday.

Earth Hour, an event organised by conservation group WWF, is a global environmental movement that aims to raise awareness of global climate change.

This year's theme is was 'Reduce, Rethink, Change the Way We Live', and the organisers said the Hong Kong event aimed to put the spotlight on plastic waste, as well as the importance of sustainable living globally.

"Earth Hour is important to help remind people in Hong Kong and people throughout the world that we need to find a balance with this planet," said WWF Hong Kong Conservation Director David Olson. "It has finite resources, and we believe that there are things that people can do, that cities can do, to help us achieve a sustainable future."

Originally founded in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now a global movement taking place in 188 countries and territories.
