Global coronavirus cases top 6.6 million, death toll soars past 390,000

The deadly coronavirus, which emerged about five months ago, has sickened more than 1.8 million people and killed at least 107,175 in the United States, according to Hopkins data. 

The total number of global coronavirus has increased to over 6.6 million, while the death toll has topped 390,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.

As of Friday morning, the overall number of cases stood at  6,639,228, while the death toll increased to 391,261, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The deadly coronavirus, which emerged about five months ago, has sickened more than 1.8 million people and killed at least 107,175 in the United States, according to Hopkins data. 

While cases are slowing in hot spots such as New York state, cases are on the rise in places like Florida, Texas and Arizona that removed shelter-in-place orders much earlier.
