Global coronavirus cases near 7.5 million-mark: Report

Europe could face a surge of COVID-19 infections in the coming weeks caused by mass protests in the continent over the last days, politicians, European Union officials and experts said on Thursday.

The coronavirus cases across the world on Thursday touched  7,432,275 and death toll soared to  418,052. The United States topped 2 lakh infections and recorded 113,168 deaths, remaining the worst-hit country as on Thursday, followed by Brazil with 772,416 coronavirus cases and nearing 40,000 deaths.

Brazil, with 7,72,416 cases, is the second country to have reported the maximum number of infections after the US so far followed by Russia (4,93,023) and India. 

Other countries in the top-10 list of most COVID-19 cases are Spain (2.42 lakh), Italy (2.35 lakh), Peru (1.99 lakh), France (1.92 lakh), and Germany (1.86 lakh).

Tens of thousands of protesters have crowded together in Europe's big cities in recent days to demonstrate against racism after the killing in the United States of George Floyd while in police custody.
