Global coronavirus cases near 5 million, death toll rises to 323,413

The number of officially confirmed coronavirus cases is getting closer to five million. On Tuesday, the cases stood at 4,911,902, according to Johns Hopkins University.

So far, the virus has killed 323,413 people worldwide. Coronavirus cases, first reported in China in December last year, peaked in mid-March.

The virus is currently affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

Britain's official coronavirus death toll is at least 41,000 with almost 10,000 dead in care homes in England and Wales alone, according to a statistical update released on Tuesday.
