France has banned the use of smartphones, tablets and other smart devices in schools for children aged between 3 to 15 years.

The ban, passed by lawmakers on Monday, will be implemented in September.

Talking to a French news channel, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said that the ban was put into effect to protect the children and adolescents. The Minister added that the ban would help the children to avoid screen addiction and bad mobile phone use.

The authorities have however relaxed the ban on French High school with students aged 15 or above by providing the school with a choice to decide on if they want to adopt the ban on their students or not.

After the implementation of the ban, the students will have to either keep their phones at home or put it in a switch off mode during school hours.
