The European Union has called for leaders from the E3 countries to preserve a deal that aims to keep Iran's nuclear ambitions in check.

In 2015, Iran signed the nuclear accord with six world powers and agreed to curb its nuclear programme.

In exchange, the country was granted exemptions from international sanctions imposed on it.

US President Donald Trump didn't play the deal and threatened to pull out of it.

Monday, Iran warned the world to prepare for the US withdrawal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his French, British and German counterparts are now set to hold talks in Brussels this Thursday in the presence of EU's High Representative, Federica Mogherini.

"The EU High Representative Federica Mogherini will convene a meeting with ministers of foreign affairs of E3 countries -- France, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, and the UK Boris Johnson -- and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Thursday 11 January in Brussels," the 28-member bloc said in a statement.

"The meeting will take place in the context of the ongoing work to ensure a full and continued implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," the statement added, using the official name for the deal.

The European Union has been trying to keep US from pulling out of the deal.

US President Donald Trump has been waiving-off nuclear-related sanctions on Iran as per the accord.
