The next 007 film might feature a black or a female James Bond, reveals producer

As we step into the new year, it looks positive for minorities as far as Hollywood is concerned. 

The makers of famous "James Bond" series announced Monday that they will not shy from making a Bond movie featuring a female spy or a black actor in the lead -- breaking the tradition of starring a white, middle-aged actor to play the heroic role. 

Producer Barbara Broccoli told a leading UK daily that she wouldn't hesitate to break from the tradition that has seen Bond being played by white, middle-aged men. She is open to having a black or woman as the next iconic spy once current Bond played by actor Daniel Craig walks away. 

Broccoli said, "These films tend to reflect the times, so we always try to push the envelope a little bit. Anything is possible. Right now it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring."

To put things into perspective, Daniel Craig is nearing the end of his tenure in the 007 role. He told in an interview that he ruled out returning to the franchise following the last Bond film "Spectre", before he agreed to reprise the role once again in "Bond 25" but speculations have been rife ever since. 

It also came to the news that actor Idris Elba might replace Craig. 

However, Idris told the press: "It feels like I'm campaigning, and I'm not. At first, it was harmless - oh, I know, wouldn't it be great? - and now it's started off racial debates."

He said that he is "probably the most famous Bond actor in the world, and I've not even played the role. Enough is enough. I can't talk about it anymore".
