The world's strongest man, a Britisher named Eddie Hall, cried after being crowned the prestigious title post winning a competition of the same name.

Hall won the World’s Strongest Man 2017 in May last year becoming the first Brit strongman in more than two decades to be crowned with the title.

He won the title in May although the broadcast of the competition finally took place last Sunday as per an unusual British tradition.

Hall won the crown by being a single point ahead of hit series "Game of Thrones'" The Mountain aka Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, and four-time champ Brian Shaw.

Hall basked in the glory now after retiring from the sport. He gave the sport away to spend more time with his family. He posted a touching note to his family during the New Year’s Day broadcast.

“So a promise I made to my nan became a true honour. I only wish she was here to see it and celebrate with us! 10 years of absolute sheer determination and sacrifice,” he wrote.

“2018 set goals and smash them, if your will power and drive is strong enough then you can do, be and succeed at anything you want. Best advice I can give anyone… Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be consistent and be awesome. Make those around proud.”

The World’s Strongest Man event has been running 1977, with Hall’s win marking the event’s 40th year.

The competition has eight of the world’s strongest men battle against each other in different challenges.
