Ecuador embassy cuts Julian Assange's communication line

The Ecuador embassy in London has reportedly cut off Wikileaks founder Julian Assange's communication line.

"The government of Ecuador has suspended the systems that allow Julian Assange to communicate to the outside of the Ecuador embassy in London… The measure was adopted due to Assange not complying with a written promise which he made with the government in late 2017, by which he was obliged not to send messages which entailed interference in relation to other states," the government said in a statement.

Assange has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012 for fear of being extradited to Sweden on sexual abuse allegations even though the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention's (WGAD) had declared that the charges were arbitrary but the UK government refused to recognise the decision, keeping Assange on a virtual house arrest.

A Swedish court had dropped the sexual assault case against Assange last year.

Assange's supporters immediately took to social media to protest against the move by the Ecuadorian embassy asking people to gather outside.
